Reed Van Schenck

Reed Van Schenck (B.A. Wake Forest, M.A. Pitt) is a Ph.D student in the Department of Communication and Rhetoric where they also assist the William Pitt Debating Union. Their research interests include digital rhetoric, media studies, and reactionary ideology and tactics in the United States. Using humanistic and digital methods, they study a wide breadth of online social movements which converge around ideologies of white supremacy, male supremacy, Christian nationalism, and racial capitalism. Reed also studies the relationships between LGBTQ people and online reactionary subcultures. In their spare time, Reed is an avid gamer and cat dad to one Pittsburgh panther.
